OSX Clean Install question

My buddy has an old Imac with 8.6 on it. Can he just reformat and clean install with Jaguar or does he need to clean install with 9.2 first..then Jaguar?

Thanks

He'll need a copy of OS 9.1 or later, ideally 9.2.2 if he wants to run anything in Classic mode. OS X doesn't recognise 8.x.

So then he HAS to install 9.2 first so he can run programs like Quark 4 in classic mode...and NOT just install OSX?

cool...thanks dude....i told him to reformat, install 9.2 then X and he'll be good to go. He doesn't have 9.0 and you cant go from 8.6 to 9.2 i believe.

You'll need some form of an OS 9 install to upgrade to 9.2
Once you do get to 9 it's just a downloadable update.

Yea, you can if you do have a 9.2 installation CD.

What I had meant to say was that you need some form of 9.x to upgrade to 9.2 if you don't have a 9.2 install CD
