PCI Ethernet for Quicksilver 2002

My ethernet port got fried in a storm. Now I want to put in a PCI replacement. I've tried 2 cards available to me, but they don't work. In fact, *nothing* shows up in System Profiler-> PCI Cards. Is this the normal behavior for an unsupprted card, or does it sound like there might be a problem with my PCI controller? The bus *is* providing power, as the lights on the boards do come on.

Does anybody know any cheap currently available NICs that work in the Quicksilver 2002?

This D-Link card works in my PowerMac G4 PCI, my PowerMac G3 Blue & White, and an old PowerMac 7600/132 -- it has also been tested in my buddy's Dual-1GHz MDD G4:

Didn't require drivers or anything. Simply plug-and-play. YMMV, though -- if your PCI bus is truly fried, then, as you've stated, it doesn't matter WHAT PCI card you put in there, as none of them will be recognized!

Well, the shop up the street sells exactly that card. I tried it. Still nothing in System Profiler or Network prefs. So, looks like $135 for a motherboard on eBay...
