PowerBook 500mhz

Ok folks I am not a huge Mac person but I have a few and love them, I have been looking on EBay for a used PowerBook 500mhz machine but I notice the prices are very high for a 500mhz machine. $1000 and up call me silly but can someone explain why anyone would pay $1200 and up for a 500mhz PowerBook when they can buy a new G5 desktop for $1700.

Why are the low end older PowerBook so sought after ?

Mac products typically have a longer lifespan than their PC counterparts, and prices for those machines stay relatively high even years after they've been discontinued.

For a little over $1000, I would recommend a G4 iBook or a 12" G4 PowerBook over a used G4/500 PowerBook.
