Just wondering, why do you need to upgrade firmware? As more people should believe, if it ain't broke...
Anyway, I have the higher end of your laptop, and it was the last (or maybe second-to-last) model with OldWorld ROM - the firmware is really hardware as it can't be upgraded. My version of OpenFirmware is 2.0.1 if that means anything. Of course, all later models use NewWorld ROM which can be updated to better support OS X. For example, our laptops can't boot from OS X if it's on an HD or partition after the first 8 GB.
