quicktime movies too dark

i am using mac 10.3.9, on a g3 laptop. i am also using quick time player 7.0.3. my problem is that when i am playing back movie previews, the picture to far too dark. i have gone to my system preferences and adjusted the brightness in the displays section and it is still too dark. can you help me?

There are video controls within QuickTime as of version 7, that allow you to set brightness, contrast, etc. Perhaps these have been set wrong? Go to "Window" --> "Show A/V Controls".

unfortunately, there is no brightness control under windows>>show av controls. thank you.
