Safari 1.2 and images download

On previous versions of Safari I was able to "right-click" an image and download it on the desktop without having to type a name for the file. Safari managed all the names and changed them into filename.1.jpg if filename.jpg already existed.

Now I have to type (or accept) a name every time I want to download a image.

Is there a way to skip this feature or use the old one?

Safari keeps the name of the image when you download it. Just drag it to your desktop.

Yeah, they changed it. I hate it now.

If you Option+Right Click a hyperlink to media, it's like it used to be (direct DL). There is no reason for this. It should be preference-based. Whatever my download location is in preferences, that's where right-click DL files should go, don't bring up a freaking approval window! I am SO annoyed with this change.

I know of no way to direct DL images other than drag and drop. Drag and drop is fine if you go to the desktop, but often times I want to send an image to a specific folder. Yes, I can dig via drag and drop, but again, if they just would follow the DL location preference, my life would be a lot easier.

I stuck an alias of my download folder on the desktop and I drag em there.
I tried to put it in the dock but that does not work. It should though shouldn't it? perhaps in 10.4
The approval window has got to go. very annoying.

I just submitted the 'approval window for downloading media issue' to Apple as a bug [Wrong Behavior]. I referenced this thread as the source. I'm sure that will go over well.

I just don't get how software developers can have something perfect and then ruin it with such an idiotic decision. If I had one general OS X complaint, it would be that they have dumbed it down a little too much. Things like approval windows for every little action get irritating. The lack of consistent support for single key dialog approvals (must use Command+key for most). Or worse, no option to use keys (for example, if you change a file extension, you HAVE to use your mouse to approve the change. There is no reason for that level of interference. How dumb do you have to be to manually change an extension, then approve it with one keystroke and not mean to do it? And even if it was an accident, you can still undo it! Get out of my way OS X!). This constant protection of the low level crowd really makes it frustrating as a "power user".
</end rant>

I know that I can drag-n-drop the image to my desktop, but it's quite impossible if u use safari windows "maximized". So the only empty spaces of the desktop are at left and right of the dock. But they are Exposè hot corners in my configuration!!!

AAAArrggh :mad: :mad:

I'd like to use the old feature, not a new one or a substitute... :(
