ok, so I'm toolin around, tryin out Safari, nice. I don't get here often, but wanted to see what the ekspurts thought about it. So I hit the ol' search button, ticked in safari and got a raft of threads. I clicked on a likely, and got the "who are you" page. I logged in and found out how to ditch the brushed metal... cool

I hit the back button twice and went for another thread... I had to log in again. GREAT! because I thought I could use that cool spider and send a bug report.

But... I said to myself "Self, you'd better test and check it out."

Soooo
Set the cookies to eat all (I've since set it back ;) ) No change...
Fired up IE and tried it with that... same problem.

(ok so the old birds here know where I'm going)

I wondered why I couldn't stay logged in. Clicked on register on the home page... I've done all that before. Then I found the mother-load, the user login, at the bottom of the front page... buried at the bottom  waisting my time

So how about it boys (and girls) Can't we move the validation to the top of the screen ;)

BTW the  is sheer poetry. thanks for the metal-stripper and the general quality of all posts

did you confirm your registration thru the link in your email reply? if you did that, then the problem is on your side. but there seem to be others using safari who are not having this problem so perhaps you still don't have your cookies set right.

oh yeah, once I login at the bit at the bottom of the page, I stay logged in. Also if I use a link to go elsewhere in the site it seems to stay logged, but using the back button gives me the glitch.

so why is the main login at the bottom of the forums page? Seems to make more sense to put it at the top of the page.

well, it is either a bug with safari or your cookie prefs.. the site is set up to recheck cookies and update the page even when you use the back button. so i think unless you are going back to a page where you weren't logged in to start with, you should get a cookie check and stay logged . you might also want to go to your site 'user cp' and check your cookie handling prefs there. i believe you will find them under user options.

not sure about the placement of log in. i always thought it was an inconvient place myself.

OK, that reassures me - other people have the same problem I do in safari.

I had just installed privoxy, which I really like, at the same time I started using safari. I didn't want to go flarking about in privoxy figuring out which cookie crunching option was mucking with things, now it seems it's just safari, which I can put up with some strangeness in...

well, cookies may be the answer, I have them set to the only browsed sites option at the moment, had set them to eat all. I don't use any third-party cookie cutters.

And, the problem is the same in IE.

I'm soo disappointed that I can't complain about a bug! ;^) that I decided to rag at the community for burying the log-in at the bottom of the page. If I log-in there I have no problems, even if I use the back button.

The problem is the site!!!

oh, replying to the thread only works if I've logged on at the main page
