Security settings

Hi,

I am not sure what to do about my security settings. Obviously I want my firewall up and running, but today I found my Mail blocked from sending because of it (I use port 26). Could anyone tell me how to ensure applications run without problems whilst having the firewall enabled.

Opening the ports in the firewall is the simplest (and probably only) solution. Without knowing what ports applications use to communicate, you're pretty dead in the water. Short answer is that if you wish to have the firewall running and also wish to use applications that use specific ports for communication and do not work behind a firewall, you must open the specific ports in the firewall.

You just need to open the specific port you need top be open. In SystemPreferences->Sharing->Firewall you can click "New" and select "Other" from the dropdown menu to open any port you require.
