Set up Raid Mirror (G5) without having to reinstall OSX

I'm trying to find out if its possible to set up a Raid Mirror (Hardware preferably) without having to reinstall my operating system. It's a PowerMac G5, top of the line. I'm thinking that since a Raid Mirror is really just a copy of the other drive, that it might be possible without the headache of having to reinstall all the applications. Has anyone done this before? And does anyone know if it is possible. Thanks.
 
Moving systems from single drive to single drive isn't much of an issue; why not hook up a Firewire drive to your G5, carbon clone to the that drive, boot off that drive, then clone back to the newly created RAID array on the two internal drives?

In theory, that should be easy enough to do...
