Simple keyboard problem

Its a daft and simple problem i have. Whenever i am typing out an invoice in appleworks on my iMac and hit the shift key and number 3 instead of getting the british pound sign which is printed on the key above the number 3 i get this symbol instead # How can i change it back so it gives me a british pound sign again??????

Go to preferences, International and hit Input Method and scroll down and click on British.
