Are there any performance packages out there for mac?

Im running a Powerbook G4 on Panther, and it seems to be getting slower and slower.

I recently saw a Microsoft (Boooo!!!) package which lets you remove unwanted start-up items from the boot up sequence.
Programmes like MSN and Adobe use start-up packages which slow down the initial sequence.

It'd be nice to see what exactly my mac is upto when it boots!!

To see your start up items, go to System preferences, then Accounts, select the user, and select Startup/Login items.

Then you will see the items that start up when you log in. Note, unchecking the box won't remove the item, you have to select it and click the minus button at the bottom of the window. This is a trick many people fall for.

Other than that, try repairing permissions.

Also, in System/Library/Startup Items, all the system items are listed. Be careful removing any of those.

You might want to Repair Permissions from Disk Utility in your Utility folder, then boot off the OS CD and run Repair Disk from Disk Utility.

After booting from the CD and the Installer window appears, go up to the Installer Menu to Disk Utility.

Download Yasu and use it to clear Caches amoung other things.
