Sound problem with Director's Cut SCART and iMovie 3

I've just bought an analogue to digital converter - 'Director's Cut SCART' by Miglia. It connects to my G4 by firewire and to my VCR by SCART. I can convert from analogue to digital no problem but when i try to play back there is no sound. If i turn off Director's Cut the playback with sound is fine but switching the converter on and off all the time is not a solution i'm happy with.

I am using iMovie 3. Does anyone know if there is a conflict with Director's Cut SCART? I don't know if there is a problem with my new digital converter or if it's because i'm using iMovie 3.

Any ideas anyone?

find out what style of a sound file the converter is using? Maybe you don't have the QuickTime codec to decode it installed.

I'm not sure what kind of sound file it uses but it works sometimes but not others - so it doesn't sound like this is the solution.
Any more ideas?
