Soundtrack Albums with iTunes3

Sogni

*gone*
I ran into a problem this morning but was hurrying on my way out to work that I wasn't able to look further into it...

I was ripping a CD Soundtrack with various artists (Tomb Raider Soundtrack), I went to see how it was crating the directory structure, and it was creating folders for EACH and every artist with a "Lara Croft - Tomb Raider Soundtrack" sub folder in each one!

I don't recall having this problem in iTunes2, what gives?

I quickly scanned at the options but nothing jumped out at me since I was in a hurry.

Is there a way to have iTunes3 create ONE main folder for the album instead of having 14 stray folders of artists with another folder and one song in each? Either in iTunes or some type of workaround (that does not requier me to move files around)?
:p

i had pretty much the same problem, overall though im happier with the itunes3 file management

if you turn off the file management option it will probably (?) work as in itunes2

what i did for mine was select all the tracks on the cd & chance the artist to "various artists" ( if youre anal about song tags then go in one by one and put the artist into the title line) then import the cd and it will be one album under various artists. for an already imported disc just sort by album then select all the tracks and do the same (turn on your file management first)

this also really helps keep things organized on an ipod

Yep...I would change the artist to "Various Artists" as well...that's what I've done with those type of CD's. You can go back if you want and add the artists to the song title as well.

You're right! Now that I have time to sit down in front of my lovely Mac (can you tell I use PCs at my new job! ack!), I distinctly remember the last time I ripped that CD it DID say "Various Artists" as the Artist Names and the individual artists wher in the title.... Altho I didn't do that - that's how it found it the last time.

That's still kinda annoying since I do indeed like it when it actually lists all the artists where they're supposed to go, but not the way it creates the diretories... There's gotta be a way around that!

Hmmmm...

Ok I deleted the MP3s off of my hard drive, selected the CD in iTunes, pressed 'Command i' and selected "Compilation CD"... (Gee, I would have never guessed since I call that an "Album" :p)

NOW it's working - well, kinda! It's storing all the songs by album, but not storing Artist with the file name...

(yeah, I know I'm an organization freak when it comes to my MP3s! lol)

No biggie tho, I can live with this since from there I can go into it with an MP3 ID renamer program that'll complete the job and get the MP3s into the format I want them in. :)
