That seems to be the new tactic of the cable Internet business as it battles with the telephone industry for broadband bucks.
Starting today, Comcast cable in southeastern Michigan plans to open up its Internet pipe, cutting in half the amount of time it takes its customers to receive data over the Internet.
At no extra charge to customers, the company is to double the download speeds for basic users from the previous cap of 1.5 megabits per second to 3 Mbps. The Detroit area is one of 14 nationwide to receive the enhancement.
