Startup problem

I have a 8600/200 with a external and internal HD.


When I try to start it up the first time it does not start up, then I reboot by pressing the green button it starts up on one hard drive then when i am in the OS i restart and only then it shows both HD's?

Are they SCSI drives? SCSI can be fiddly sometimes. Does the machine boot without the external drive attached? Try doing a clean system reinstall and after that (if you can be assed and there's not too much stuff for you to backup) maybe a reformat and a reinstall. If its still being a hassle then it might be a hardware problem (SCSI bus?). Although the fact that the machine is working with both the drives sometimes suggests that its probably software.
