I have a Blue and White G3 tower that will not start up properly.
I have tried just about everything. Here are the symptoms...
Running os x.1.4
Flashing question mark at startup... several seconds later, bootup resumes... and as the system is about to finish loading, the computer (or at least the monitor) goes to sleep. Sometimes, I can wake it up (not often), and sometimes, I cannot. I have to then shut it down forceably.
I cannot boot from any CD except one I have for an ibook (install CD that came with it). I have tried resetting the PRAM, pressing the CUDA switch... resetting from open firmware mode... I tried using another computer in firewire target disk mode, but holding down the option key at startup doesn't do anything. I tried fsck -y from single user mode...
On a hunch, I also checked the voltage of the clock battery... it is at about 3 volts (should be 3.6). I am hopeful that replacing it will work, but only a little. Please offer any advice you can. I am at my wits end.
Thanks so much.
Dan
