Suggestions for Best Affordable OS X Laser Printers

I have been a PC user up until two weeks ago when I got an iBook. Most of my peripherals had drivers on the company web sites so I could transition from PC to Mac. Sadly, my laser Minolta printer, is not Mac compatible.

Can any of you Mac veterans recommend the best laser jet printer out there? I'm looking to spend no more than $150, and I'm running Tiger OS X 10.4.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am a new Mac user also and and wanted to use my very old laserjet IIId. At http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3 , I got support for my very old parallel printer now connected thru a usb converter cable to my usb only Mac Mini.

My recommendation is to buy a PostScript printer if you can at all afford it. If you do, then you will never ever have to worry about drivers again. Every OS supports PostScript. Printer-specific features are controlled by PPD files, which are completely cross-platform.
