Tiger Freezes for the First Time

Hi,

Recently, I just installed a 512 MB PNY PC2700 RAM chip on my 933 MHz iBook. The day after that, when I was looking at a large powerpoint file and transferring large files from my external hard drive, it froze both times; mouse was not working and I had to hold down the Reset button for five seconds to reset.

I read about kernel panics and such, but what my main question is that is this occurring because I used a 2700 chip instead of a 2100 chip? If using a 2700 is okay, is there any other diagnosis? Thanks in advance.

It could very well be the RAM stick -- it could either be incompatible because of the speed rating, or it could be plain incompatible (or even broken).

Best bet is to remove the RAM stick and see if the pauses/crashes/odd behavior continues. If not, then you've narrowed it down to the stick of RAM, which can be returned for a replacement.

For best results, use RAM that is spec'd identically to what the iBook requires.
