Turning G4 into server. HD question?

play thing
I've got an old G4 (533Mhz) that I want to turn into a server. I need to increase the storage capacity. Can I add **any** IDE HD to do this, or is there a capacity limit, etc?

I was thinking of adding this internally:
Western Digital WD5000AAKB 500GB Hard Drive 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM

and this as redundancy / raid
Iomega 500GB USB2.0 External Hard Drive - Retail

Also, is it worth buying OS X server, or would the standard version do the job (ie. what additional features are in the server version).

Any additional advice much appreciated.

Thanks for that.

OK, assuming that I can't be arsed with 3rd party drivers, any thoughts on using 2 external firewire drives? Both drives will have their own firewire port/ connection to the computer, rather than being chained.

Is this a fairly safe/ reliable way to go?

I'm not sure how the various ports relate to the internal firewire bus ... if one goes down, do they both go down? I need the server to be as bullet proof as possible, ideally implementing some sort of raid setup for duplicate / redundancy.

Thanks

If this is a workable solution, can someone recommend a suitable 500gb external firewire drive, preferably with a fan.
