hey guys
apologies from the off for my mac ignorance.
my girlfriend has an iBook G3 (700 mhz cpu if that makes a difference).
she was having probs with her CD drive so I bought a dvd/cdrw combi drive off ebay (drive is matsushito, i think). I used the pbfixit guide to haul the old drive out and replaced it with the new combi drive.
booted up os x (10.2.8) and tried popping a CD in. the drive clearly has power as it whirred and so on, but nothing doing in the os - drive doesn't appear on the desktop, nothing showing in the apple system profiler and iTunes not recognising there's a CD in.
Also can't seem to eject the CD with F12 and it's a slot-load rather than tray, so no paperclip get-out clause.
so am I doing something horribly wrong? is there someway to "add new hardware" (apologies for windows speak)??
any help HUGELY appreciated (and I swear on my ipod i'll pay more attention to macs in future).
Thanks
Tom
