When I import speech into Garageband, it sounds like a mouse.

I thought this would be a pretty common problem, but after a good look around, I guess it isn't.

I have speech which I want to import into Garageband. I drag it from the Finder to a new Basic Track and it imports fine, but it plays waay too fast. I started with the slowest tempo, so adjusting the tempo just made it go faster. It is faster than mice speak.

What's the matter?
