Media DVD or data DVD?
Which app did you use to do the deed?

I'm guessing that you tried to burn a media DVD, but that you did not finalize it..

MisterMe,
this problem has occurred with me as well. It let's me back up my data, but then won't mount to the desktop. It happens randomly. What do you mean by 'finalizing the disk'? Is that the same as 'verifying'?

No, finalizing the disc would not be the same as verifying. The burning program attempts to read the information back off the CD/DVD to make sure it wrote correctly. That's verifying.

What happens when you put in a movie DVD? Does it fail to recognize it? Sounds like you may have a bad drive. They do go bad sometimes. I've had a DVD burner and a combo drive go bad on me.
