    G5 Blues, ;[

The delay may be due to the ramping up of a speed bumped G5. They are due to be announced any day now, and it's not uncommon for Apple to delay some orders that come in right before the new machines come out and bump you up at no charge. Be patient. You may be rewarded for it...

    longhorn

Read http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/longhorn_4051_04_ue.asp What an idiot... Microsoft and "user experience" in the same sentence. The only "user experience" Microsoft is promoting is one of gouging the customer and providing them a substandard GUI heavy laden with proprietary MS...

Hell Freezes over Part II?: WMA on iPod, thanks to HP?

WMA will not be on the iPod, guaranteed. The author of the article should be stripped naked, covered in chicken feathers and be made to run with the bulls. He's an idiot, plain and simple. The HP Digitial Music Player is an iPod, end of story. Sure, it's grey and has an HP logo on the...

    Winexposé

Well, I anted up the $9.99 for it. As much as I hate to put money in the pocket of someone who is infringing on Apple's IP, I wanted to see how good/bad this implementation is. Well, the verdict is in. Winexpose (like Windows itself) is a shell of the technology it rips off from Apple. On a...

    Winexposé

As much as I hate to agree with the older sibling of SpeedRacer, he's right. I can think of only one major feature that Apple lifted from Windows - and that would be fast user switching. Still, Apple implements it better than Windows does. There are lots of little things that Apple finally...

iLife -- appears I'm screwed and must pay another $50?

Log in as a student and get it for $29. Apple doesn't require any verification. Or wait a couple of weeks, and Apple will probably release it for free to teachers, like they did the last version. Find a teacher and have him/her get it for you.

The colors of the mini iPod.

My opinion, and the general consensus around the office is that the colors are hideous. I don't see the iPod minis as being a big seller. The hideous colors aside, why would someone pay $249 for a 4GB player when they can get the 15GB player for $299. The only benefits of the 4GB player are 1)...

    Adobe LiveMotion: DECEASED.

Swish started life as a Flash "addon" app. It basically did text effects. But it quickly expanded in to a full featured authoring app. It can do much of what you can do in Flash, at a fraction of the price. it's only real caveat - it's Windows only with almost no hope of ever being ported to...

    Adobe LiveMotion: DECEASED.

LM 1.0 never did. LM 2.0 had a decent scripting engine that was based on Javascript. It was much simpler to learn than ActionScript. While Fontgrapher may still be sold, it is a dead product. Macromedia has informed people that development has ceased on it. The only difference is Macromedia...

    Adobe LiveMotion: DECEASED.

ATM Deluxe was the best font management package out there. Why Adobe decided to kill it off completely is beyond me. I can understand not porting it to OS X (well, not really, but I could see their reasoning), but the Windows version was still head and shoulders above anything else available for...

    Adobe LiveMotion: DECEASED.

LiveMotion was an app that showed promise. Adobe had a good chance to capture the video "switcher" market. Basically, LiveMotion was aimed at After Effects users who wanted to get in to Flash development, but didn't want to take the time to learn the interface of Flash. The problem is...

Codename for the successor of 'Panther'?

10.0 - Cheetah 10.1 - Puma 10.2 - Jaguar 10.3 - Panther 10.4 - ? My guess? i would have said "Cougar", but from what I understand, the "Cougar" is the same species as "Puma", so that won't work... So, might I suggest something quite simple and overlooked, yet powerful in it's...

Rumors of Outlook 2004? Office 2004?

I believe the latest update to Entourage brings as much Outlook interactivity as you are going to get on the Mac from Microsoft. They had stated a while back that they were examining the best way to bring this functionality to the Mac, and they finally settled on adding some of the...

    Panther: Lack of features

I can understand your concern about the lack of features. There really are a lot of great things about Panther, but it's not so much that they are new features, but that they are features that have been greatly improved over the previous version. For example, we've been able to search in OS X...

    Satellite connectivity

Direcway sucks. I had it back in the fall of last year. I ran it through my PC, serving up the connection to my Macs. Downstream speeds were decent (usually 768kbps - 1mpbs), but latency isssues prevented you from playing any online games. Upstream speeds were abysmall. Literally slower...

    New Adobe CS suite...

Apparently, all the dynamic content tools that were in GL6 have been removed from GL CS. You can read about it here... I own both GL 6 and DWMX, and can say that overall DWMX is the better product. GoLives site management tool is horrible to use and adds all these extra files to your...

First impression - Flash MX wouldn't load up. It just kept automatically quitting after one bounce. Same with the 30 day trial of Flash MX 2004. However, after launching DW MX, Flash would start up fine. Strange. Seems much more stable than b59, which I had a few quirky issues with (seemed...

Dvd drive to be purched-any tips?

Oh, I see you wanted to just get a DVD drive. I'd still go the route of the Pioneer. It's a bit more than just a DVD drive, but you will be ensured compatability with all the Apple software (including DVD Player).

Dvd drive to be purched-any tips?

If you want to be compatible with iTunes, iDVD and burning in the Finder, go with a Pioneer DVR-105. It's basically the same drive Apple uses as the Superdrive. ESBuy has them for about $150.

In my testing, b53 was pretty stable. b59 introduced a lot of little quirks on my PBG4/1ghz. Not to mention it's much slower. Hopefully they are winding down testing/debugging and we'll see a release date at the Expo tomorrow....
