    Hidden goodies in 10.1.1...

II've experienced the same problem as javintosh when I have my Dock along the right side. It doesn't just move the icons so they arene't covered by the Dock, it moves them WAY into the desktop (like j. said, about two inches on my screen too). I think it must be calculating how far it needs...

    Help - DSL Stalling

I need help! I recently moved to DSL at my home. Since then, I suddenly stall when trying to access sites I previously had no problems with. My ISP Tech Support indicated that it was a problem that Apple is aware of but refuses to admit to. Regardless if that is true, they sent me...

    What mac do you have?

Just as Mac uses like to gloat over Wintel users, I think Cube users like to gloat over other Mac users. Not that Cube users are better, just that we're a very blessed bunch. I have a Cube. I love it. It's sits beautifully on my desk, and is whisper quiet. I don't know how I will ever put...

    Where's our dock?

I tried to put it on the right side, just like I was used to with NeXTSTEP, but I noticed that I prefer it on the bottom. It seems to make more sense to me in a kind of strange intuitive way - especially considering that it is always centered, the menus seem to make more sense that way...

OmniDictionary doesn't show up in services menu?

It shows up in my services menu as "Define with OmniDictionary Apple + SHIFT + = " I think that's the key combo. I just used it last night, and I'm on OS X 10.1.1

    DSL stalling with certain sites

I just moved from 56K modem to ADSL yesterday. Everything is great, up and running with no problems. However, I am having a problem with certain web sites. Sites that I previously had no problems connecting to (both secure and insecure) with my 56K modem (yesterday morning), suddenly stall...

desktop won't update until i click on it or...

It is definitely app related, as far as my experience is concerned. IE, almost 99% of the time, will not show up on the desktop until I CLICK on the desktop. OmniWeb downloads are fine, for me. IE, although better in general than the original version that came with OS 10.0, is spotty with a...

More Evidence for Slowness of X

Sorry to hear about your problems, mindbend. I have few complaints with OS X as it stands now, but I'm not that muchh of a power user. But I imagine a lot of people who are powerusers and professionals out there are feeling the same. I think Apple will optimize their code as time gows on...

    Services Menu

Services is one of those great features that came over from NeXT. And as timsey says, will become more powerful as developers get used to their functionality. There was a good article about them at www.macedition.com that expalins their power. It's also like simx says, it is one of those...

Mail does strange things to attachments

I've had the same problem sending just jpg's through Mail.app. My PC friends get this gibberish, but some Mac people can open. Anyone have a fix for this? I shouldn't have to compress something if I don;t want to - especially if it's a 10K jpg... Not even worth it.

    10.1.1

I agree with SCrossman. You give up a few short minutes (I mean you guys realize that the optimization takes just MINUTES) to have a snappier, better supported system all the time. If Apple came to you and said, "Can I make your system run faster, including the Finder, better CD & DVD...

    Disable Live resizing

As far as I know, there is no way to disable live window resizing. In fact, I am almost positive that Cocoa applications can ONLY have live window resizing because that is how the window object code is set up for Cocoa from the start (and this goes back to NeXT, which had lie window resizing...

You can also enable Keyboard Access through the System Prefs Keyboard Pane. Once enabled, you can turn it on/off with Ctrl+F1 Then, you can access the Menu & Dock without using your mouse at all. Menu = Ctrl + F2 moves focus to Menu, and then you can use your arrow keys and enter to...

    Jaguar - Mac OS X 10.2

For all of those looking for Virtual/Multi Desktops, there is an App/Dockling out there, I think it's called spaces . Check Apple's OS X downloads page or even versiontracker for it. It gives you virtual configurable desktops that you can switch between with a click of the mouse in the Dock...

What's your all time favorite OS?

I was a huge fan of NeXTSTEP! In fact, I had pretty much given up on Apple and had become a Windows convert UNTIL Apple bought NeXT. Once I knew NeXT's work was going to be incorporated into Mac OS I sat back and waited. Then, in February, I bought a Cube. As soon as OS X was available I ran...
