    Matsushita CW-7586

I gave up and the boss ordered a replacement (internal, this time) - it's actually not expensive and the compatibility database at xlr8yourmac.com says it's fully supported and bootable: http://store.yahoo.com/livewarehouse/mmli29920.html I have a Lite-On at home (12x10x32x) - internal -...

    Drivers Needed for Wireless Cards

What version of OS X are you running? Do you have Airport software installed? If so, it should recognize the Orinoco - it uses the same chipset as the Airport card.

It doesn't seem to want to install over a USB connection and I don't want to take it apart (mine's in a LaCie external firewire/USB case) to make it an internal drive just for the firmware update. Especially since this is a piece of work equipment, not personal.

    G3 900 or G4 500 Upgrade?

G3 900. It's faster than the G4 500 (which isn't that much faster than what you have). The G4 500 would only be a better choice if you used graphic-intensive applications all the time, like Photoshop, that take advantage of Altivec.

    Matsushita CW-7586

I have the same problem at work - Sawtooth G4/450, Matsushita CW-7586 CDRW in a LaCie Firewire case. It doesn't usually spit the cd out, but it will say "no cd in the drive" and I can open the drive with the button. Sometimes I can burn, sometimes I can't. And sometimes when I do burn...

    Blinking Disk....

Are you getting the flashing question mark? Did you try to zap the PRAM for at least 4 chimes before you let it try to boot? Is it the Beige G3? If so, reset the CUDA (with the power cord unplugged). The CUDA button is on the motherboard, back left by the PCI slots. Press and hold for about...

    i broke my sawtooth 400 :(

The CUDA button on the beige is back left on the mobo....if you have PCI cards installed, you have to use a pen or something to push it.

    ATA 133 card in G4

Most ATA controller cards will report as SCSI (and any attached drives as SCSI). It's normal; don't worry about it.

    Overclocking G3's

I had a Beige G3/300 DT that I overclocked to 333. I got video artifacts at 366. xlr8yourmac.com is the source for checking compatibility and how-to on drives, but I had a Lite-On 12x10x32x CD-RW in it that was fully supported by iTunes, Finder and Toast, all in Jaguar.

DI-614+ - no DHCP on wireless side- HELP

Okay, I got the thing to work. I had to play with the default settings (RTS and Fragmentation) in order for it to receive an IP address. I lowered the numbers until it worked and all is good. Thanks for responding so quickly, Brian.

DI-614+ - no DHCP on wireless side- HELP

I gave myself a static IP exactly like my dynamic IP addresses, just .111 instead of .109 (the highest dynamic IP assigned). I don't have WEP turned on; I wanted to get everything working properly first.

DI-614+ - no DHCP on wireless side- HELP

The wired side is fine - distributes IP addresses to all wired computers (4). The wireless AP appears to be fine, as it says my PB 1400c running OS 9.1 with an ORiNOCO Gold card is connected (correct MAC address and everything). My PB (ORiNOCO Client 7.2 software) says it's connected and...

    NTL Broadband wifi (wireless)

The router's directly connected to my Linksys Cable Modem - I have Comcast. No WiFi - yet. I've just ordered the DI-614+ router because I want my ancient PB 1400c to be able to get online for updates & stuff. And my bf wants his even more ancient PB 5300c to get online to get service pdf's...

    NTL Broadband wifi (wireless)

D-Link is VERY Mac-friendly. The setup is via browser and it works perfectly with Safari, including all firmware updates. The manual even includes Mac setup instructions. I've been using a wired D-Link router (DI-604) for well over a year with absolutely no issues whatsoever. 3 Macs (1-10.3...

    Powerbook Ettiquette

Actually, you should run on the battery as often as possible. Once it's fully charged, unplug. And run it down all the way at least once a month. This conditions the battery to remember the actual charge it can hold.
