Getting an Apple Select Laser to work in 10.2

Or, if you have an older, serial Mac (with Ethernet) hanging around, use it as a print server (cheaper than buying the Asanté or Farallon LocalTalk-to-Ethernet adapters). I use a PowerMac 7300, running 9.2.2, as my print server for my LaserWriter Pro 600 (which has LocalTalk, Parallel and...

    Need to network G4 w/ 8600 -- PLEASE HELP!

You can made a direct connection, but you'll need an ethernet crossover cable, not standard cat 5e. You can buy a crossover cable at any local computer store/Best Buy type.

    Which WebCam to get?

iVisit works very well pc-mac (at least for audio; haven't tried video yet). There is another webcam solution: Orange Micro's iBot (firewire). I've heard good things about it and it's Mac and PC compatible as well. http://www.orangemicro.com/ibot.html

what can a Performa 6200 be used for?

Here's the place for old Mac games: http://mac.the-underdogs.org/ I'm sure the kids would enjoy having a second computer to play with - less fighting, perhaps? :D

what can a Performa 6200 be used for?

I've got one running 8.6 smoothly (with 64 MB RAM). I was using it as a print server, but I switched it out for a 7300 w/G3 250 upgrade and 96 MB RAM. It's my classic OS machine (for testing and occasional connection to ancient PB) and external floppy drive, too ;)

I'd like to see someone get this avi working on a mac...

MPlayer v2.0b4 played it perfectly on 10.3.1 for me, too. Tried with QuickTime - got an error (this codec not installed).

    What is this? G3 Mac.

You can - both. The RAM will only work at PC66 speed. Oh - and you can only install it if it's low-profile. Standard height RAM DIMMs will NOT allow the portion of the case that holds the power supply and optical/floppy drives to close properly. Plus, it'll push hard on the RAM, probably messing...

    What is this? G3 Mac.

Funny....I run Panther on a B&W G3/550 every day - it's more than functional. In fact, it's barely slower than the Sawtooth G4/450 I use at work.

    What is this? G3 Mac.

OWC Larry's weekly email said that Ryan Rempel has gotten Panther to install and work on a 7300, so look for a new release of XPostFacto soon that allows installation of Panther on legacy Macs :-) And DeltaMac is right - you want to upgrade your VRAM. If you add in a video card, btw, the VRAM...

    monitor resolution

Look in Apple System Profiler (About this Mac under the Apple, then More Info)....what Machine Model does it say in the first window, and what video card does it say under the Devices and Volumes tab (should be the first thing listed)?

    What is this? G3 Mac.

It sounds like a Beige G3 Desktop to me. Would be 233, 266, or 300 MHz. I ran Jaguar fine on a Beige G3/300 with a Zip, CD, Floppy, 6 GB hard drive and a BTO video card (iXMicro 3D 8 MB VRAM + 6 MB VRAM on MoBo). Overclocking those suckers is easy - check it out at xlr8yourmac.com - I had...

Oh no! Where's my iDVD in Panther?!

Yes, you can extract the installer with Pacifist (worked fine for lots of other people on other boards).

Oh no! Where's my iDVD in Panther?!

Nowhere. It doesn't come with Panther.

    Panther on a B&W G3

Eddie- You usually can find the Radeon for about $100...I used mysimon.com to find mine for $105 in April. OWC has it for $100 (open box) sometimes...$117 normally. It's really a nice addition :p 'Course, I agree with you - I'd like to get the IBM on a ZIF, too....

    Panther on a B&W G3

B&W G3/550 (OWC upgrade), Radeon 7000, 30 + 80 GB WD hard drives on SIIG ATA-133 PCI card, 1 GB RAM, USB 2.0 pci card with DVD-ROM and 40 GB WD hard drive on it. Panther runs much faster and smoother than Jaguar.

Help - Apple will not boot

I agree with Cheryl - archive and install, keep all your stuff, but a clean install of Jaguar. And don't install the IOGear, 10.2.8 supports it without additional drivers.
