You have to go to the Displays control panel and make the 2nd monitor the main monitor (i.e., drag the Menu Bar over to the 2nd screen). Then you can play your DVDs on the TV or second monitor. Cheers thedbp

SoundHack ... I use it for quick-n-dirty sound recording, but it also handles lots of effects and such. I believe its freeware as well. Also, its available for most machines, i.e., I run it on my B&W G4 running OS X, but also on my Quadra660 A/V running 8.1. I'd highly recommend it.

mine works fine ... perhaps you could delete the reciept for the DVD update (in the /Library/Reciepts folder) and try the software update panel again to reinstall it from scratch.
