I'd suggest looking at a mac specific site like macresq.com (good for older out of date or refurb stuff) or macmall.com for a mac compatable PCI Ethernet card. If you buy it from a Mac site, chances are it'll just work or atleast include a driver.

In my experience I had the most stability from 9.1 and up. 8.6 seems like a wasteland that should have never happened :D Of course if you want stability, just stick with OS X ;)
