    25th Anniversary Mac

I actually have the book (sitting next to me at my desk here as a matter of fact). Been a while since I've perused it. But, yes, many ideas in there quite interesting. In fact some striking similarities to the NeXT hardware as well.

    25th Anniversary Mac

While Apple is sometimes know for being "ahead of its time" with some of their products...I never realized how far ahead. The 20th Anniversary Mac was released in 1997? Well, the Mac development did not even begin until 1979! Maybe they meant dog years or some such thing. Oops. ;)

It was originally written by Brad Cox and the StepStone corppration in the early 1980s. In 1988, it was adopted as the development language for NeXTstep and...

I made my first attempt to mount an Windows shared (SMB) file system. Unfortunately, I was unable to do this directly from the Finder. I get a "No file services provided at URL" or some such thing. I downloaded Sharity and (eventually) made it work). Sharity is nice, but really, I'd like...

Most of the pictures I imported (at least those I had taken with a digital camera) DID appear to import into the correct date location in the iPhoto library. On the other issue of these task-based UIs. I like the CONCEPT, but it is going to require a lot of habit changing on my part...

Why doesn't Apple buy Avid and Silicon Graphics?

Well, that might a bit extreme. You don't think that a) Apple could leverage SGI's technology into the consumer market and other professional markets, and b) Apple could infuse something new into SGI's products and technologies? They certainly could make them LOOK better. ;-) Yes, but I...

Why doesn't Apple buy Avid and Silicon Graphics?

Before MacWorld Expo there were a number of rumors, some of which even involved possible Apple acquisitions. Palm. Avid. OmniGroup. Even Adobe was mentioned in passing. My question is this...with Apple's obvious bent toward media, multimedia, creative professionals, etc. Why doesn't Apple...

    deleting OS 9 applications?

I have a new iBook, and I am (nearly 100%) utilizing OS X. As I browse through the "Applications (Mac OS 9)" folder, there are a number of applications that I will never use, and some that are duplicates of the OS X applications I do use. Is it safe to delete some/all of these, such as: -...
