    Electric Guitar through an iMic?

Btoneill -- Thanks much for those tips. :-) Could you explain low and high impedance? I've read some technical definitions, but could you explain it as it relates to Garage Band, Mac and the MobilePre? Thanks!

    Electric Guitar through an iMic?

What about Mobile Pre USB that apple's selling in its store for $150. Under what circumstances would I need this instead of just plugging a mic or electric guitar directly into my mac's input? -- a music recording novice.

Recommendation? Service for converting handwriting to font.

Hi All, I'm presently searching for a good service that converts one's handwriting to a font -- i.e. you write the letters in a grid, send it in, and they send you back a cd with a font. When I google, I see a lot out there. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks, L

    PowerBook G4 Superdrive and 4x vs. 2x DVD-R

Hi All, Forgive me if there's already a thread on this, but I couldn't search for the terms "2x" and "4x" because they're under 3 characters. :-( Anyhow, I just purchased some TDK 4x DVD-R disks, and I'm a bit confuddled (I made that word up specifically for the way I feel now) by Apple...

    All-In-One Printer/Fax/Scanner recommendations?

Hi All, I'm in the market for an all-in-one printer/fax/scanner/copier. Here's what I'd like: Postscript/Laser. Scan feeder that can scan a stack of photos. Flatbed scanning with reasonably decent quality. DOESN'T need a high paper capacity. Ethernet preferred but USB ok, since I...

    Panther: Emailing received fax

Hi Qwerty, Thanks for your reply, but could you elaborate? I don't know what procmail is. And why wouldn't Apple's help say anything about setting that up in order for fax email forwarding to work? L

    Panther: Emailing received fax

Hi All, Been playing around with my new Panther install, and am having a problem: I set up to receive faxes. They come through fine and get put into the folder of my choice. But I've also set it to email the fax to my email address but nothing happens. Never sends an email. I checked the...

Apple Two Button Mouse - Vote Please!!!

I have a 2-button (3 if you count that the scroll wheel can be clicked) but I have to say that I understand Apple's motivation to keep the 1-button mouse: They want to maintain the elegance and simplicity that distinguishes them from the Wintel world. The idea of simple point-and-click gets...

Killer X11 Apps --- any suggestions?

Thanks Cat, But why didn't Apple -- masters of elegance and simplicity -- include FinkCommander-like functionality into X11? If OSX is already Unix-based, and FinkCommander and Gnome or KDE are the interfaces, then what's X11 for?

Killer X11 Apps --- any suggestions?

Thanks for all these great resources, y'all. I was under the impression that once I had installed X11, then I've only to download a UNIX app, and I'd be good to go. But it seems more complicated than that -- Fink, Gnome, etc. Can someone explain this to me as you would to a child? With...

    Wireless keyboard and mouse

Question on the wireless keyboard and mouse: I have my current USB keyboard and mouse hooked up to a Dr. Bott MoniSwitch USB -- a KVM switch that allows me to use my one keyboard and mouse (and monitor) for both my Mac and PC. If I stuck a Bluetooth adapter into the KVM switch box, could I...

Power Computing PowerTower -- How to boot from CD

Yes, a hardware bridge was my other option, but since hooking the printer up isn't critical for my work, I was trying to do it on the cheap. But could you recommend a model (I searched and came up only with Farallon/Proxim, I think) and a place to buy?

Power Computing PowerTower -- How to boot from CD

Thanks RacerX. If I find a friend with a floppy drive I'll make a boot floppy and go from there. I'm trying to get this working so I can run it as an ethernet bridge for an old serial laser writer. But I wonder if it's gonna be more trouble than it's worth.
