    Mac faster than PC?

Last time I checked, a laptop had a power supply so when the battery icon looks a little low, I wouldnt have much trouble reaching over and plugging it in. Also while it may not last much over 2 hours under heavy use, what do you expect for 2x the performance? If I judge a laptop on battery...

    Mac faster than PC?

I dont know. I saw some test of the Centrino vs faster P4's and yes it was very impressive but I dont recall it being as fast as the 2.8 and 3ghz P4's but non the less very very impressive. I think that Intel is using the Laptops as a testbed before ramping up the speed maybe on a slightly...

    Mac faster than PC?

Of course apple laptops are the fastest. I'm sure that a 3.0Ghz P4 laptop with a 533Mhz bus and integrated Radeon 9000 is just too slow to compete. Ya that must be it or did we not think a 3Ghz laptop existed? Oh wait, Mhz myth right.... clock for clock its considerably slower. Too bad its 3x...

    Mac faster than PC?

Actually I myself cant stand that when you close an application window, that you can see the dekstop because it looks like the application is closed at a glance when it really is open. This is more of an issue if someone else is also using the computer. Also the taskbar in windows works better...

    OSX SCSI boot

Ya it boots under OS9. I didnt get the latest driver yet. I just read that it was a supported hardware and figured the latest 10.2 release will have the necessary drivers. I mean everything seems to work fine except for boot. I can partition it, format it..install....so OSX seems to control the...

    OSX SCSI boot

Sigh.... nope. Not working. Tried formatting as extended and same thing. Guess I can always flash the firmware on the SCSI card and use it on my older PC. Kind of sad but I know it will work there....

    OSX SCSI boot

Thanks for the info I'm going to try that now. God I hope I can make it work. I'll check for the firmware updates on the card as well. Never thought of doing that but I now for sure its a bootable one because I can boot under OS9. Well I go try now. I'll let you know what happens in an hour :D

    Mac faster than PC?

Mike, I agree with your statment. I dont think Apples G5 sales will soar just because its the fastest computer (when it comes out) but yes it surely will because its the fastest MAC. Its also one very sexy machine! I know some may not like the way it looks but I love it :)

    Mac faster than PC?

Hey Fryke, I disagree with your statement. Pentium 200 vs PowerPC 200Mhz. They both came out around the same time right? Yes they did. I just installed Windows XP on a Pentium 200 with 128mb RAM, 4 gig drive for a friend. Its not idea but runs and gets the job done. She can use her office 97...

    OSX SCSI boot

On a 400Mhz B&W machine with an Atto PCI Express (Symbios Logic 875 chipset) and a 4.5gig 10KUW drive....How come I cannot boot after an install of OSX 10.2 ? I choose the Unix file sytem on a single partition. Install goes fine and at the end when it says its finished....I choose to reboot...

    Mac faster than PC?

Sorry. Didnt mean to burst any bubbles. I'm not sure if I can say that Macs are more stable. I'm up for debate on that too. User friendly... well maybe OS9 but I dont think OSX is user friendly at all. In fact I think Win2k / XP is more friendly. Now for my work place... my workstation is an...

    Mac faster than PC?

How come everyone always twists things around when it comes to hardware. Ok for the past few years Apple computers have been slower than PCs due to lower overall processor power (dont talk to me about per Mhz). Lower memory bandwidth etc. Power IS important and all of you who say its not will...

    Dissapointed so far

Hey Arden, I will agree with external device being nicer and more convenient as firewire but I made not one reference to external devices. I said SCSI is not dead at all and mentioned high end servers and workstations. Internal SCSI drives are still way way faster than IDE drives and have the...

    Help me. I'm desperate ...

Ok I'm not a mac guy but I will say this, increasing system RAM from 512MB to 1gig would do nothing to increase framerates in those games or any other game I know. The problem is (and I'm going from the PC side of things), that the games may not be optimized for dual processors so really, the...

    Whooopieeee - a glorified iBook

Fujitsu Lifebook (P1100 model I think) has about 5 hours on the standard battery or 10 hours on a high capacity one. Its not a mac but batterylife is great. http://www.fujitsu.ca/products/notebooks/lifebook_p_series/p1110.html

    Dissapointed so far

I have swithed many clients from Win98/Me to Win2k/XP and both myself and the users feel the difference. Usually I'll get calls from the people that were hesitant to upgrade, telling me that its soooo much faster. Maybe this is partly due to the fact that its a new install...but in general I've...

    Dissapointed so far

I understand that I should have done research but why is this product which has been out of circulation from a manufacturer who has been dead for a while be supported in win2k and XP. Thats my point. If that SCSI card is supported there, I think OSX should have supported it. I'm sure all popular...

    Dissapointed so far

:) I know you can buy controllers and drives for the mac too but my initial frustration was the fact that OSX did not support the UW SCSI controller that was working great under OS9. Reading through lots of posts I see that OSX has poor Boot support for SCSI adapters anyway. Then someone...

    Dissapointed so far

Of course this is an Anti-Mac rant. Think about it. WinXP is much bigger than 98 but more stable with much better multitasking and its faster too. OSX is much bigger than OS9, more stable with better multitasking but is slow as a dog. IF MS can do it, then apple should too. Also to the guy...

    [FAQ] - Cleaning LCD Screens

Ok I know this is completely insane but I cleaned a very dirty screen on an old IBM thinkpad today at work with Mothers Showtime (yes, automotive stuff) http://www.detailersdream.com/item5490.ctlg Believe it or not, it worked amazing and left the screen feeling silky smooth ;) I dont...
