    Preferences file question

In the case of the Toast pref file, Resorcerer shows that it has one STRING resource - cddb.cddb.com. It also has four PREF resources. Two of these identify my external CD burner. One is blank, and one contains some rather cryptic (to me anyway) characters. If it's serial data, it's...

    Mac OS X 10.2.4 - merged

It added the Address Book to my Dock. Interesting... No other changes and/or improvements are evident yet.

    Omniweb updated

Does OmniWeb have an identity crisis? When I have the Compatibility pref set to identify OW as itself, I get an amusing little javascript error at one particular site. :p

Let's see if your real face looks better than your desktop. Post your pic!

Grrrr, pic didn't show up... Too big, maybe? Trying again.

Let's see if your real face looks better than your desktop. Post your pic!

Well, my wife whipped out the digital camera the other day, and got a pic that actually resembles me. So here you go, representing the "senior citizen" contingent, moi.

    Anyone download and install OpenOffice?

I downloaded it from a server in Germany. I'm located in the USA, but had the same problem with MacUpdate's server that you encountered. And yes, it is worth the effort! :D

    Mac OSX upgrade

IIRC, the "free" ($19.95 S/H) Jaguar upgrade was available to anyone who bought a new Mac or OS X 10.1 in the month before Jag was released.

"AOL's loss is biggest ever. Ted Turner quits after disclosure of giant decline"

In related news, AOL has apparently suffered its first decline in number of internet subscribers. In response to this news, a Slashdot reader posted the following comment: "Oh no! How are we going to easily identify the scum of the Internet without @aol.com on the email address!" :D

    Mac OSX upgrade

Probably within the next week or two. Developer builds of 10.2.4 have been seeded for a while now. The latest is build 6I20, which is rumored to be a strong candidate for Golden Master.

You can get one of the "old-style" CRT iMacs for about $650. These are new machines, not reconditioned units. And some on-line sellers offer free shipping. Check my sig for the specs on my machine :D

    Kung Hei Fat Choy!

I actually studied Chinese for 2 years in college, a looong time ago. I do know that's what you say to folks to wish them a Happy (Chinese) New Year. 'Course, they taught us Guoyu (Mandarin), which is pronounced differently. But anyway, Kung Hei Fat Choy to ddma and everyone else! :D

    Kernel Panic Upon Startup

Are you able to boot up in OS 9? If so, then while booted up in 9, you can simply delete the System (but not "System Folder"), Library, Applications (again, not Applications (Mac OS 9)), and Users folders, and then reinstall OS X.

    Chimera vs. Safari

I was torn, but ended up voting for Chimera. Tabs rule, and Safari can't handle my on-line banking site yet. But Safari is definitely faster, and I have "sweetened" it by using some of the 3rd-party enhancements like Safari Enhancer, Safaricon and PithHelmet. Oh yeah, and the bookmarks manager...

    Weird startup

You're booting up in the Open Firmware screen for some reason. Normally you would have to hold down the Command-Option-o-f keys while booting to do this. Next time it happens, try typing "reset-all" (without the quotes) at the prompt. That sets everything back to default values.

    Can't kill process

What group & owner are shown for the process? If it's a zombie, I believe only a restart will kill it. :(
