    You'll know if its a dual, instead of having ONE (small square that looks like a mirror) it'll have two of them. the MDD should have enough space on the board to run a dual, but you'll have to get the correct heatsink.

    Hmm, sounds like it was just a coincidence, and doesn't have anything to do with the update, it sounds to me like your inverter has went out on you. Its always weird like this when these things happen. After it says "Software installed, you must restart" was it after you restarted?

    iMac G5's were know for this, it sounds like the capacitors on your motherboard have "popped" I would bring this to an "Apple" Certified place, and have them take a look at your capacitors, they can be bought off ebay for 14 dollars i think.
