    I don't like this...

I agree with you that we get ourselves really worked up with no support from Apple whatsoever, though I disagree that it is just here. I see the same thing on several other Mac forums. I have to believe that Apple is glad that people are interested but otherwise really wish all of this...

    SUPER fast broadband

I've never ordered ppv and I see myself as even less likely to order any kind of video on demand over my computer. For one thing I'd rather watch movies on my big tv, sitting on my couch as opposed to on my 17" monitor sitting at my desk. For another its easier to just go to the vid store and...

Apple going after indie labels for ITMS?

Fantastic news :-) I probably have not heard of a lot of the groups that would get signed up, but I've heard enough people talking about this to understand that it is a big move for Apple to make.

    New low end Mac?

I have to agree with Jack Hammer. As nice as greater market share would be it means nothing next to greater sales. Apple could have 0.1% of the market and as long as they were still enjoying good sales and making good profits everything would be well. Market share is just an indicator of...

    itunes 4.0.1

I've never given out my streaming address to anyone, nor do I plan to. It is great for me, though, to be able to sit at work and listen to my music being streamed from home. This is why I haven't upgraded. I'm no Unix guru or network engineer, so I'm afraid I'll just have to wait to upgrade...

    New Mac Clones Available?

To me the "pizza box" design is nothing new or exciting, and the placement of some of the ports looks down-right shoddy (since they had to do it that way to mate up with the mother board). This is just a rounded-edge version of the same designs that have been around for decades, and from almost...

    Panther Details

I can't wait for Panther to get here. And unlike many others I am looking forward to giving Apple my yearly $129. Not only is it a great reason to go to a party at the nearest Apple Store (currently 2.25 hrs away), but the entirely reasonable fee helps to insure timely and comprehensive...

New Mac Firebird v0.6 (aka Phoenix) is out!

I downloaded the "newest" version of the browser as linked to directly from the main page of Mozilla.org: 0.6. Perhaps this is an error that they've corrected in some bleeding-edge nightly build, but not in the "for general public consumption" release that just came out. And what exactly was...

New Mac Firebird v0.6 (aka Phoenix) is out!

I had just installed Firebird and was getting set to give it a good spin around the block to see how it measured up. But before I did that I hit Command-H to hide it so I could do something else first. But the browser did not hide. The browser instead grew a "History" sidebar. How...

I'll bet 15" AluBook out tomorrow.. (just a guess)

Actually it's more than a month until WWDC. The dates are June 23-27: http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/

    Apple orders 40,000 970s

Regardless of what they show off at WWDC I have a hard time believing that they would ship the actual machines before Panther was ready to ship as well, and nothing I have heard leads me to believe that will be before August-September.

    Apple orders 40,000 970s

Well two of those types do or can have pretty significant physical differences. The most obvious is that laptops have an attached monitor and fold up into a flat package that is easy to carry (plus all the other stuff about battery power and different architecture that deals differently with...

    Apple orders 40,000 970s

From what I've heard the new motherboard designs cannot physically fit into the current case designs, which has made a new design necessary. I remember reading a few rumours about it (the design) a month or so back, but nothing very specific or very reliable. At any rate, the shape/fit of the...

    Jobs' surprize

Apple: The Inside Story of Intrigue, Egomania, and Business Blunders is an excellent read if you are looking for a history of Apple's feelings toward the idea of spin-offs, clones and competition. Having read this I have almost no doubt (less than 1%) that the OS will never be licensed again...

    New eMac <-- I'm Fast :)

I'm not very familiar with the eMac line, so what is new about these (besides the keyboard)? Lower prices? Higher specs?

    Final Thoughts on iTunes 4?

I think that playing the music on three computers while sitting in front of them seems to be entirely reasonable, but at the same time I would like to have something of a different level or type for streaming. There are at least five or six computers that I work on with enough frequency that I...

    Final Thoughts on iTunes 4?

And we never have to worry about Apple turning off their servers when we are half way through with a download. Amazon has a wishlist feature, as do many other online merchants. The power of these is that it allows other people to buy things for you that you have pre-selected. I'm not saying...

Apple sells 275000 tracks in 18 hours

I believe you make several good points, Dusky. I think if the Windows service had been launched at the same time we would have seen--at most--two to three times the volume of sales. However I think we would have seen a slow swell that would still be going. As dedicated Mac users we jump on a...

Apple sells 275000 tracks in 18 hours

And if you think about it, that's something like $179,000 that went to the record companies in an 18 hour period (since they get roughly $.65 a song). It's not a huge amount of money, but I'm sure they don't sneer at making the equivalent of 11,000 - 12,000 CD sales in less than a day.

Apple sells 275000 tracks in 18 hours

I'll still buy some physical albums too. There are some things where I just like to own the album and everything that goes with it. There are also the times when I want to do some editing or mixing and any MP3 or MP4 is just too low in quality for me to begin with. But this will definitely...
