    C++ In Xcode

if you in the end want to make a nice gui app, or just be able to use the power of interface builder and cocoa bindings etc.. you can also mix obj-c and c++ (=objective-c++) in files that end with a .mm extension, and call functions in c++ classes from obj-c and vv.

OSX on a FAT32 drive??? Crazyness

thanks Burns and Roto, i did indeed do a clean install, after reformatting the drive to HFS+ shortly after my initial post. probably Burns' last post is the best explaination for osx to work more/less but in the end fail on several points. still i can't find anything related on the internet...

OSX on a FAT32 drive??? Crazyness

well, i believe os9 could already read/write fat32 disks (floppies and usb memory sticks are often fat32...) but as an osx bootpartition? doesn't seem right..

    (re)attach process?

thanks auser, you're solution is what i thought'd be the way, but it only works as long as you're in the same 'session'. once you exit that shell (or logout), i never manage to do as you suggest. maybe i have to reformulate my question; i want to exit a session with running commands, to...

hi, a friend came to me with her brandnew macbook. she'd done something (really) studip, still don't know exactly what, but it made pretty much her whole home-dir dissapear. she asked me to help and see if we could recover some stuff. trying to mount the drive on my powerbook, the drive...

i'd like to point your attention to another thread i started a while ago; maybe this forum is more appropreate then the general OSX one: i cant's sudo anymore.. in short: sudo doesn't accept my regular admin-password anymore; i still can login as root (su). repairing permissions and...

    (re)attach process?

sorry, this must be really basic; i use an old g3pb as a sort of juke-box. i use mpg123 to play files and playlists, but i usually control it from behind my desk. (another machine) but i want to be able to 'detach' the (mpg123) process on the g3 from the terminal session om the powerbook...

    memory management improved with 10.4.8?

after upgrading to 10.4.8 i get the impression OSX has become much more efficient in memory managment. i notice this especially on my old pb g4 titanium (667/133/1mb/768mb). having numerous applications running, the system still didn't start swapping pages to disk...so overall it stays much...

    i cant's sudo anymore..

i can su or login as root fine.. for testing i just created a new user-account with admin-rights. that new account is also not able to use sudo... i found many posts about the same problem on several fora on the web, from as early as 2000 (pre osx 10.0) till now (10.4.8), but none of the...

Does maximise make sense to you?

well, in my experience the green + button behaviour is pretty consistent and predictable...with some exceptions. usually, all it does is toggling between two states: 1) the last (user-specified) window-state and 2) some system/app defined optimal setting. this last-/user-specified setting...

    i cant's sudo anymore..

yes. i can perform any action that requires admin privileges in the finder/gui without a problem. but there's a lot of stuff i can't do from the GUI/finder, and i need root/sudo for! i've searched high and low, and found many posts on several forums around the net about the same problem, but i...

    i cant's sudo anymore..

at one point sudo stopped accepting my (admin) password. i'm using the terminal all the time, and need to execute commands as root often, so right now i'm stuck. as a quick work-around i thought to just add myself (user) to /etc/sudoers, but that doesn't work either. i can't tell what...

    disable 'automatic-on' of intertnet sharing

hi i use a belkin wifi card for 802.11G on a titanium notebook. this usually works great, but often when i put the card into the powerbook, and turn-on airport, the airport automatically switches into 'internet-sharing-mode', so it doesn't connect to the wifi-network. the only way to...

    Mac to Mac Network Dead

do you have multiple nic's active on the imac? the ip you mention (169.x...) is a self-assigned ip, which means that the network-interface is not properly configured, or didn't get an ip from the dhcp-server on your LAN. but the fact that you still can connect to the internet with that machine...

    finder-info-bar in minimal-window-look

WOW! it's that simple? great! thanks for the tip! i think the reason why i overlooked this, is the fact that it doesn't have a keyboard shortcut. usually i tend to avoid the mouse if possible...dunno why and i've never had a reason to check-out the Finders' menu-items ... but maybe i'm...
