    Remember Apple and G5?

Earlier this year, before the first MacWorld of 2002, I predicted Apple would move to a different sort of model tiering. I predicted that Apple would go to dual G4's in power systems, and put powerful single G4's in desktop models in order to compete until the G5 (which I've been saying for the...

    Apple observations and opinions

Steve's got his head in the right place for the most part. I find it hard to fault most of what he's done with Apple's resurgence and innovation in the past couple years. I'm one of those people who hopes to save up enough money to pick up a NeXT cube as a conversation piece in the living...

    Apple observations and opinions

Sherlock 1 and 2 were both good products, and it is somewhat understandable that Apple would have planned to extend the features of it to what Watson currently offers at some point. However, I just think the similarities and the specific functions that've been shown in the few Jaguar...

    Apple observations and opinions

Over the past several months, I've written quite a few posts on a few different forum sites regarding my experiences coming over as a Windows PC user with some experience in Linux, to my recent ownership of an iBook Dual USB. Several things have come to my attention in these months, and I would...

Maybe PC's are Good for something

A 500Mhz G3 is noplace near the speed of an Athlon 1Ghz, sorry guys. Not even close. I've got an Athlon sitting next to the P4 1.6 I'm writing this one now, and not only does it smoke my iBook, but it's barely slower than my P4. Just as the G4 is better than the G3, AMD is better than Intel...

    Rant: Quit yer whinin' (QE)

Well, I can understand how Apple might be reluctant to release too much information in light of lawsuits that they might be facing. But unfortunately, it just seems like Apple's starting to do a one-company job of the balkanization between the 'new and the old' every year that we see in the PC...

    Rant: Quit yer whinin' (QE)

See, that's the problem. With so little known about what QE and other Jaguar enhancements, other than rumor, I don't feel confident that there will be a performance enhancement for my iBook. I'm not in any way suggesting Apple throttle anything back, and thought I was pretty clear on that...

    Jaguar Observations...

I've been wondering if anyone has impressions of 10.2 on one of the iBook dual USB systems? I got one of these toward the end of last year, and am really feeling like my machine's been 'orphaned' for lack of a better term, by things like Quartz Extreme. I'm all for taking advantage of the...

    Brushed metal

I thought that consistency was an important thing to Apple, too. When I tinkered with OS 9 after getting my iBook, there were quite a few things I liked about it. The interface was functional, the look of everything was decent and I could select a theme. Unfortunately, X seems to have blown...

    Rant: Quit yer whinin' (QE)

Personally, I really resent the kind of attitude people are showing on this thread right now. You act like it's easy to get new hardware, or a loan. For a lot of us, it isn't. I know several people right now that would like nothing more than to get an iBook or a new iMac and toss their PCs...
