    Epson printer 'needs service'.

Thanks for your understanding - the idea of a hole in the ground filling up with serviceable printers, etc., is madness. The link you posted confirmed what I've figured, that I need to clean the ink pads, then hook it up to a PC and reset the counter. Can't find Mac software to do this so I...

    Epson printer 'needs service'.

Well you see, that's just plain wrong. Not your advice, but the idea I should throw away a perfectly good piece of kit because the manufacturer decides I should. I think I shall try cleaning the ink pads, plugging it into a friend's PC and running the utility. Shame there's nothing for a Mac...

    Epson printer 'needs service'.

Went to print out on my Epson C62 and got the message 'Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. Contact your dealer for replacement.' Having Googled I find the ink pads need cleaning, but then you have to reset the print counter. To do this you use a utility which is for a...

    cd drive stuck iMac G4

Final episode (I hope). My son's workmate gave him a DVD writer which he said worked, but wouldn't work in the case for some reason. We took it out of the case and it looked the right size, so we removed the old CD drive, installed the DVD writer (screw holes were in just the right place...

    cd drive stuck iMac G4

Well we finally got around to taking the iMac apart using the info in the above link. Got the CD drive out and found the black plastic catch above the door was out of place. We got it moving freely, put everything back together again, booted up and pressed the eject button. The door slid out...

    cd drive stuck iMac G4

Thanks for the advice. The eject button definitely isn't working, though you can hear that the tray is trying to open. I shall have a look at it over the weekend with reference to the link posted and hope a clean with an air spray and a spot of oil will fix it.

    cd drive stuck iMac G4

My son's asked me to fix the CD drive on his G4 iMac. It very rarely opens when you press the 'eject' button. I'm wondering if it's just a build up of dust, so I was wondering if anyone's had experience of this, and how easy it is to access the drive.

    Non-start up

Must be my age. I'm sure I've used that in the past, but it's not working now. In fairness I did ask if Rhisiart had tried it, I made no mention of it working. Is there a CD in there? Or do you need to get it open to insert a start-up disc? How about plugging in an external cd/dvd and trying to...

    Non-start up

Have you tried opening the CD drawer by holding down 'M' on start up?

    iphoto import problems

You could try copying the pictures from the camera onto the desktop and then import them to iPhoto, just as a workaround. It does sound as if the camera might keep thumbnails in a different folder than the originals, though I haven't heard of that before, so look into that. As for the pictures...

Installing OS X Panther on New Hard Driv

Maybe a silly question but are you sure the CD isn't a DVD and the iMac only has a CD drive?

Getting a song IN to GarageBand?

You can import AIFF, WAV, AAC, Apple Lossless and MP3s into GB, just drag them onto the timeline beneath the tracks. Note that they don't change key or tempo to match your project.

    Adding a drive

I've just added some memory to my wife's G4 from an old G4 that's not used and then I thought I might as well give her the hard drive from it as well so she's got an extra 40gb of space. I understand how to do it but am a touch confused on the jumper settings. I've done a simple diagram...

    update problem

My son recently installed Leopard on his G5 and this morning he emailed me this from work: 'When I go to update my software, MAC OS, it now asks you to restart before the install and then installs on reboot. However, when my machine boots up on the blue background screen there is a status...

    Black rectangle in Leopard

Thanks for saving my sanity. I've got a big job on colouring in cartoons for a client and that b****y rectangle was driving me crazy.

    Black rectangle in Leopard

I installed Leopard a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday it developed an annoying black rectangle which appears in various applications. For instance in Photoshop (CS3) it seems to take on the shape of the scrollbar then appears at random over the image. In entourage it will take the shape of the...

    Where's all the space?

Thanks for all the help. I'm setting Time Machine running right now so everything's backed up then I'll look into it further. I remember using an app to look at crash logs, etc, sometime back which showed up some big, big text files. I'll look at OmniDiskSweeper later. Thanks again.

    Where's all the space?

I regularly repair permissions, and back up to my external and thence to DVD. I deleted the previous system folder (I'd already taken what I needed) and it made about 2gb of extra space, so I still don't understand why it was saying it was 12gb.

    Where's all the space?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I realise why the folder is there, just wondered where the 'invisible' gbs were. Also, deleting it isn't going to interfere in any way with the running of the Mac now, right?
