    FireWire HD won't come up - 10.1.4 issue?

    Update to this thread: I put the HD from the external Firewire case into my Mac. Purrs like a kitten, works fine. Guess the IDE/FW bridge (or whatever the correct term is) somehow blew, so I guess it's not an OS issue although I cannot rule that possibility out for certain. Chris

    FireWire HD won't come up - 10.1.4 issue?

    Hi folks, got a lovely problem: Got a Firewire HD (80 Gig) on my G4/933, and since yesterday, it refuses to work. Here's what happens: It I hotplug it (turn it on when the computer is already running), nothing happens -- no icon, no entry in /dev/, nothing. Of course, fsck does not find it...

    Linux printer <-> Mac OSX

    Hi Chenley, well of course I _could_ do that, but I have the linux box running all the time (file server, web service, router, ...), and connecting the printer to the Mac would mean I have to have two computers running all of the time which I don't want to do. I have lpd running on Linux...

    Linux printer <-> Mac OSX

    Uuhhm, thanks for your replies, but that wasn't exactly what my question was aimed at. I want to leave the printer connected to the Linux box ONLY because it serves other Linux clients. I just wanted to know if any of you have experience setting up REMOTE printing (over the network) on their...

    This is so cool!

    Hi, the piece of software used in Jurassic Park was the "file system navigator" and could be downloaded from SGI's homepage. I found it completely useless, but it does look really cool! Sorry for outing myself as a "command line" and "regular expression" type of guy! *g* Chris

    Linux printer <-> Mac OSX

    Hi folks, got the following problem: I have a printer (HP 1100, no PS) running using a Linux box as printer spooler. I want to use this printer as the standard printer of my G4. I know there are several ways to du it: Samba, Appletalk, standard network printing. My question is, what is the...

    Filesystem oddities

    Hi, thanks for the suggestion, will run f*ck -y -- however, I doubt that this will help since it happened with a fresh system. BTW: Any journaling file systems out yet? Would be mighty cool. Chris

    Canon D30 and iPhoto

    Hi, I recently had to learn that "compatible" does in fact not mean what one might guess.... I have a digital camera, a D30 to be exact that I use quite a lot. To streamline my workflow, I bought a PowerMac G4/933. I wanted to use iPhoto to import my pictures, my camera model was on the...

    Filesystem oddities

    Hi there, a month back I got myself a G4/933, nice machine. I'd come from a Linux/Unix environment and I noticed some oddities about OSX' file system that I do not feel to happy about. 1) After chaning the owner of a directory from the shell (using "chown ...", I never saw a change in the...
