    You could also try checking the autofill options in your Safari preferences. It may be auto filling a wrong name and or password. Or in your Keychain. Applications>Utilities>Keychain Access.

    You could try repairing permissions. But, I would do a clean install of the OS. I do one about twice year any way. You'd be surprised the speed boost you get from a nice clean OS.

    Does WEP's insecurity affect wired connections?

    WEP doesn't do anything to your wired connection. It's Wired Equivalent. Meaning it makes your wireless connection as secure as your wired connection. I agree with the previous poster. Use WPA.
