Ok I was able to run Data Rescue from OS X (2nd drive) and it cannot even see the partition containing the corrupted OS X system which appear on the desktop, not even mentionning the other ones that remain invisible... Any suggestions from here `?

Defragging itself or perhaps the crash only affected the boot volume, which was not that bad, actually I should have formated right away. The problem was trying to recover that partition thats when things got out of control... Is it worth trying fsck -y command ? when I hit Command + S it...

Thanks a lot for your help. The security update did solve the problem. I was even able to patch using "old" updates till 10.1.4, but not .5 I can do it from software update where all other updates are available now ;)

I just re-installed OS X 10.1 and when I check the software update it says my software is up to date which is not of course. I had saved 10.1.x updates but whenever I try installing one it asks me to run "INSTALLER UPDATE" which I had also, so I ran it but when it asked me to chose a partition...

My computer crashed during Quicktime 6 installation. When I rebooted OS X wouldnt load properly, just before showing the desktop it locks or searches endlessly. Is there anythine else that could be done besides formating ?
