Silly question - default apps for file formats

This is the type of thing I should really know but I can't find any options in osx for. Files have default applications in osx, just as files belonged to apps in classic but is there a way to change all files of a certain format e.g. jpeg to be opened by one app e.g. preview? Cheers, Craig

Proper way to open 'niced' cocoa apps?

I want to permanently modify the nice value of apps like MSN and iChat and Mail when they're loaded, because I have better things for my processor to spend time on, like Bryce, Photoshop, and my servers. I've read about a few different ways to do that. The one I'm leaning toward is creating...

    Open Apps on Menubar?

Does anyone know if there's a utility out there that will put open app icons on the menubar (always visible, not on a drop-down list) instead of on the dock? It's one of the two or three things I think Windoze actually got right. Any help would be appreciated.:D
