Administrator Problem

Greetings!

My brother (don't ask my how / why) has somehow lost administrator access to his own computer and now he can't give himself access to install applications or anything. He can't write to almost anything, not to the harddrive. not anything, and he can't go to Preferences / Users and change info since he is not longer in the "Administrator group".

If anyone has a idea on what to do, please do tell me.

The users he has on his computer is:

* Darkwing (the only one he can log in with)
* root
* mysql
* daemon
* smmsp
* sshd
* unknown &
* www

We have tried almost anything but he does not know the root-password either so...

Any help appreciated!

If it is 10.2, you can reset the original administrator accounts password by doing the following:

1. Start up from the Mac OS X Install CD.
2. Select Reset Password from the Installer menu.
3. Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
4. Set the selected user to the name of your original Admin account.
Note: Be sure to select your Admin account name. Do not select "System Administrator". System Administrator is actually a reference to the root user. Do not confuse it with a normal Admin account.
5. Enter a new password.
6. Click Save.
