Apple Store to open in San Antonio?

My girlfriend was checking out job listings on monster.com today, and called me over to see some openings filed under "Apple Computer" in San Antonio, Texas. As you may or may not know, we've got an Apple store about 60 miles north in Austin, Texas, but none here so far -- just a lowly CompUSA.

At any rate, some of the listings are:

• Management
• Mac Genius
• Mac Specialist
• Inventory Control Specialist

Sounds like an Apple Store may pop up in the Quarry shopping center, or more likely, the new upscale center out 1604 by UTSA.

I sent an application for Mac Genius as well as Mac Specialist. My resume highlights the fact that I worked with, operated and supported a network of both Macs and PCs since 1995, so I hope that helps... A poor college student could use a good job, especially if it's in the shopping center across the street from school!

I lived in SA. Better places for sales (upscale malls, including the new one EDCC mentioned is coming up).

I love SA - the upscale area and the barrio! Forget the tourists, I just think a luminated apple and minmalist entrance there near the bridge would look really cool.

I was there in the early eighties (even the beer and the blood of Fiesta 81 (was that when the guy went beserk?))

Randman, when did you live there?

I was there for the first title for the Spurs. Great stuff. Saw about a half dozen games during the regular season, then caught games from each playoff series except the sweep of the Lakers, including Game 2 of the NBA Finals vs the Knicks. Good stuff. Left in middle of 2000, so I'm sure it's changed a good dead since.

Any tourist visiting San Antonio probably already has an Apple Store somewhere in or close to their hometown -- they're not gonna come to SA and wanna go to an Apple Store.

The Apple Stores should be aimed at the permanent residents of the cities in which they reside, and that new upscale shopping center by the north campus university is perfect. I hear there'll be a Nordstroms as well as several other upscale stores.

The Riverwalk, while a good tourist attraction, would be a bad place to put an Apple Store... can you imagine purchasing a new G5 on the "Apple Store Riverwalk," then having to carry the damn thing 3 blocks back to your car? There's no storefront parking at the Riverwalk (only pay parking lots that are usually 2 blocks or more away -- you can't just "drive" to the Riverwalk... you drive downtown, then get out and walk the rest of the way), and it would take an employee a minimum of 30 minutes or more to put the G5 on a palette and walk it to the customer's car and back.

That's true, parking is bad around there. Haven't seen the new shopping center you're talking about, of course, since I haven't been to SA for... hmm... at least 5 years (moved up here to Delaware 5 years ago). Can't remember if I've visited there since - I've been back to visit friends and family in Corpus, and have some living in SA too. Well, family is spread all over Texas, really.
