can't delete veoh web player

Hello and thanks in advance for listening - I've been trying to delete the Veoh
web player but even using the rm -rf command that I read about in another post didn't work - it disappeared from my applications folder but reappeared on my desktop - I can't put it in the Trash because it's open, even tho I've
only used it once - also the console tells me that P2P listening port is now shared: 49516 or 50526 and a lot of stuff I don't understand - except Veoh Web Player - pages of this stuff - the Get Info command told me that hide extensions is checked (I can't uncheck it) and apparently this app just runs all the time - it's my prime suspect for the weird behaviour of my Mac - sometimes I can't log out and I have to hold the power button down for 30+
seconds to shut down. Does this mean my machine is a zombie?

goodbye veoh web player - replying to my own message is likely not how it's done but... I
think I finally got rid of it. I found a folder on Mac HD that I'd never seen before called 7GQ85ZAN, it contained files related to veoh. I went to Terminal and deleted the folder and then deleted the player and it worked! However there are also two other folders on Mac HD that I don't recognize - commands.log(empty) and test.txt which has this in it:

currForm 1, vForms.size()=1

init.ClientSocket

listening on port 50000

This message is repeated 3 times. Is it related to veoh? Is it safe to delete? Does anyone know? And by the way, I'm a beginner, following advice from other posts that
sounded similar - thank you so much macosx, so glad to find this site - what are ports
anyway and who's listening?

Hey,

I doubt this to be a coincidence that I recently found the exact same message in a folder called test.txt. Mine happened to be in my Mac HD. I have no idea what I am supposed to do with it or how it got there. It seems almost like a test for a new virus that someone is planning on launching.

Thanks

Hi Wolfie
Have you looked at your console log? Does it have a lot of stuff about listening ports? I'm still really curious about this, my Mac has been running
more smoothly since I finally found all the files related to Veoh and deleted
them. I printed off a several pages of the listening port stuff if there's a techie
out there who can translate it. Wolfie, do you have the veoh web player? There
hasn't been anyone listening since I deleted mine.

Well, today I found a "test.txt" file in my root folder for Macintosh HD.
I'm using Snow Leopard. It was created on March 27th, modified 2 days ago and it has 4 kb of the following:

currForm 1, vForms.size() = 1
initClientSocket
listening on port 50000

I'm worried it might be a virus, worm or something else.

And nop, I didn't install veoh web player... at least not that I know. Weird.

Well, after googling some greek and german pages (you have to love google translate) I think I found the answer to my question.

Apparently a Zinc application (which could be a Flash game or application running in standalone) sometimes will create this test.txt file... maybe you can determine which application is it by guessing when was the last time you ran a standalone Flash application or game and comparing against the date.

In my case, a nice little game called "Governor of Poker" was the culprit. Well, it kinds of tell me I've been playing it a lot =)

Hope it helps!
