Changing a video card

Changing a video graphics card to a newer one causes the display to go blank during boot-up. Can't say if POSTing has proceeded and system boot-up is complete. Anything I need to setup or change before I swap Video Cards ?

It'd help if you supplied more information. Tell us everything you can about your system and the cards you're trying to use and whether the cards are mac specific.
 
This is a Dual 867 MHz Power Mac G4 running Jaguar with a GeForce4 MX(manufacturer ???). I tried to swap in a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 instead and am now wondering if a AGP card for the PC would work on an AGP slot for the Mac. For that matter even a PCI.
