Display troubles

I'm running a G4 400, ATI Rage128Pro and a Voodoo3 2000. One Samsung monitor, one Viewsonic.

I have a problem with my dual displays. I want both to run at 1280x1024 but when I do, black bands become visible moving up and down on each display (respectively). The problem according to monitorsdirect.com is that the refresh rates are marginally out of sync and it is causing interference. There are no other compatible refresh rates other than 60hz for the two displays according to my display control panel.

A friend suggested I enquire as to a there was a Unix command to force the refresh rate to increase so as to avoid the sync problem. Is there such a thing.

I know NOTHING about Unix.

Any help is much appreciated.

thanks

As far as I know there is no way to force screen to use a refresh rate that higher than it supports.
Are you trying to use them in mirror mode or extended desktop mode?
Here is another solution: get one or two LCD screens. They are free from refresh rate problems, so if you even got one, hopefully it would not cause a problem with the other CRT.
