Erase Junk messages in X days in Mail.app

Does this work for anyone else? Because it doesn't work for me. Never has. I set this under "Special Mailboxes" in the Mail preference panel under "Accounts." I set it to erase junk mail messages after a day. I don't get any kind of error message or anything; it just doesn't work.

Is this an unimplemented feature?

Mail v. 1.3.8
Mac OS X v. 10.3.4
PowerMac G4/500 AGP 1028 Meg Ram 80 Gig ATA

1 Day = 24 hours. Those emails do get delete when they are over 24 hours old from the time you received them. Have you waited more than one day? Then check the dates on those emails that are still there.

Yes, but one day is certainly less than twelve days. When I looked today, I had junk messages from July 26th. And I'm pretty sure that was the last time I deleted them manually. I don't really see any evidence that Mail.app ever deletes them automatically.

Also, this is happening on two different machines: my G4, and my iMac. Both are running the exact same version of OS X and the exact same version of mail.app.

What gives?
