iTunes Music Store : This is the most popular legal download service, and with good reason.

MusicMatch: If you use MusicMatch Jukebox already, give it a spin.

BuyMusic: Bargain hunters only.

MusicNow: MusicWhatever, unless you pay extra for the premium service.

RealPlayer 10 Music Store: If you care enough to hear the very best.

Napster: The premium service is great for exploring new tunes, assuming your budget can handle $120 a year on top of the cost of purchasing tracks.

Wal-Mart Music Downloads: Will Wal-Mart undercut the competition? Stay tuned.

eMusic: Superb for indie fans. Check out the free trial at eMusic.com.

RealRhapsody: Expensive, but there's a 14-day free trial at
Note that the survey is Windows-only.

Nice article. Get this on Napster!: 'Premium service downloads "expire" if you don't keep paying."... What the $^&%!!!

iTunes def looks the best, I wish apple would offer a "premium" service or similar, where you get unlimited downloads for a set cost a month e.g. 10$/£ wat ever. This would encourage more people to join, but obviously with out the catch that Napster has added, once you stop you subscription you loose your songs, thats soo crap and unfair!

I'd stay away from anything remotely subscription based if I were Apple. It's subscriptions which scare people and complicate the issue.

Thanks for adding the quote, Randman. Good job. You've almost overdone it now. ;-)
