G4 OS 10.3.9 Wont boot in

when tryin to boot the system i get a black screen with two messages;

init: can't exec /bin/sh for single user: No such file or directory

init: cant exec/bin/sh for /etc/rc: No such file or directory

I've tried resetting the eprom by using the special keys, opened firm ware and tried to reset that way. nothing works. I do not have the original CD with the 10.3 on it. I'm ready to keep using this pc and throw the mac on the track. Any ideas.
 
Try booting from the Panther install CD and on the installer menu selecting Disk Utility then Repair Permissions to see if that clears up the problem. While you are there I would also run Disk Repair in case the problem is the result of directory damage on your hard drive.
