Has Anybody Used a NON Apple Remote w/ Front Row?

The owners manual says that a universal remote can be configured to use in place of the Apple Remote. Has anybody ever tried this? Did the functionality of having a number pad prove more useful than the Apple Remote? Any recommendations for a brand and model of universal remote to use w/ Front Row? I love using Front Row at home when connected to my Cinema Display.

my set-up: 15' 2.16 gHz MacBook Pro, 2 gig, 100 gig HD, 23' Cinema Display

If you were to use a universal remote it would only support the same buttons as the Apple Remote. The only reason that Apple mention it is that many people who are using Front Row in the same setup as a TV set, VCR, DVD, Cable box, and so on would like to know that a universal remote will be able to replace the Apple Remote and let them clear up another bit of clutter.
